Dissecting an iBook keyboard...Summary I tried to keep most of the parts separated in small plastic bowls. The keycaps in one and the scissors in another and the unusually sized keys in a third. These I filled with warm soapy water and just let soak for a few hours.
Gently washing the 3 layers of the keyboard’s base, removed all of the dirt and stickiness.

 One word of warning...
The keycaps do not seem to float well but the scissors do! While I did use a small strainer to hold them while rinsing in the sink, some of them floated up and over the top and down the drain. If you do this yourself, don’t do it in the sink.

Assembly was straight forward. Just click the scissor in place ad then place the keycap on and gently push till it clicks. I ended up losing two scissors for the small F keys as well as one of the small fake spacer keys from beside the arrows keys.
The keyboard worked perfectly when I re-installed it. However it does look a little gap-toothed.
