What’s Barcamp? Barcamp is a conference with content created by the attendees. This means that the Barcamp organizers don’t know who is going to speak before the day, because the speakers are going to be coming as well, pitching their talks or discussions, and then letting the attendees decide. You won’t be hearing sponsored talked, or from people payed or paying to speak – you will be deciding what sort of conference you want.

Technology Learning Day

We regularly are asked how Learning Day works, and if there is a structured program on Learning Day Saturdays. Learning Day is an informal and unstructured session where you can drop-in and we'll help with any specific questions you have or specific topics you'd like assistance learning. In February, we talked retro tech with a really cool whiz kid, helped with questions about iCal and unlocking a bundle of software, ran a back-up and set up Time Machine, and helped a local photographer get her digital photos organized and under control.

December Technology Learning Day Postponed

We've had a great year of Saturday Learning Days, and have been thrilled with how many people we've helped. Due to the December holidays, we are postponing December's Learning Day, but Saturday sessions will return in January.

December 2009 Social

We'd like to extend a special thanks to everybody who attended our 2009 social, which was held December 8 at Elliot’s Barbeque in Matthews. The social was a great success, with 25 members and guests, lots of fun door prizes and fabulous raffle prizes, great discussion about how we all use our Macs, and a fun round of Mac trivia. Congratulations to the Calhoun family, which won trivia, and Bill C., who won the evening’s grand prize, a Magic Mouse. Join us in January for our next meeting. We look forward to seeing you!

November 2009 Monthly Meeting

We'd like to extend a special thanks to Jon Parshall, COO of Codeweavers, for presenting CrossOver Mac to us at our November monthly meeting. Jon led a great presentation about the capabilities of CrossOver Mac, and we appreciate all our members and guests who participated in the discussion! Congratulations as well to the Calhoun family and Steve W., winners of the two CrossOver Mac product codes that were offered as door prizes.

Jon joined us via iChat, and despite slower network speeds, we were all pleased and impressed with conducting a meeting via iChat using video chat, screen sharing, and iChat Theater. It certainly makes the world much smaller.

In addition to CrossOver Mac, Eddy Nivens led a discussion of using Preview in Snow Leopard to control a scanner, and also demonstrated using Lexar Image Rescue to restore photos lost on removeable media. Thanks to everybody who braved the rain and chill to join us for this excellent meeting!

November 2009 Monthly Meeting - CrossOver Mac and Other Great Things

CACC’s next meeting will be held Tuesday, November 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the Matthews Community Center located at 100 McDowell St E in Matthews.

We are excited to welcome Jon Parshall, COO of Codeweavers, to our November meeting. So if you need or want to run Windows applications, CrossOver Mac allows you to do just that without booting into a separate Windows partition, or moving files back and forth between two separate environments. Can't live without you special version of Solitaire, or need special software for work? CrossOver Mac is what you're looking for.

If time allows after Jon's presentation, we'll also touch on all the neat things Preview can do in Snow Leopard and using Lexar Image Rescue to recover images and other files lost on memory cards. We hope you're able to join us for what's bound to be an informative meeting. And remember, as always, all CACC meetings are free and open to the public.

CACC’s next meeting will be held Tuesday, September 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Matthews Community Center located at 100 McDowell St E in Matthews.

Apple is expected to announce some new products that day, so we'll spend a bit of time discussing that announcement, and maybe daydreaming about the products we'd like to see released.

Then we'd like to do something a little different. Instead of us talking and teaching, we would like to open up the meeting to a discussion of the neat things we're all doing on our Macs.

Our members and friends bring a variety of skills and experience to the group, and each of us has specialized knowledge. This would be your opportunity to tell us about what you're doing. Are you using CS4 to build your own graphic design business? Learning how to create your own Rapidweaver themes? Beta testing a new version of software? Did you discover a great new resource, or a Web site you just have to share? Come and share your tales with us!

If you'll be attending the September meeting and are willing to participate in this type of discussion, please send us a note and let us know. Also, if you cannot attend in person, but would like to share, we can plan for you to join us via iChat.

We look forward to seeing you for this great meeting! Remember, as always, all CACC meetings are free and open to the public.
